Registrars report: LSU is experiencing small student enrollment gains this fall, while Southern University’s enrollment continues to decline. Despite fewer freshman and graduate students compared to last year, LSU’s overall enrollment went from 28,771 students last fall to 28,985. The increase is primarily due to more returning students, largely from LSU’s outsize freshman class last year. Southern’s enrollment declined from 7,294 students last year to a 6,915 headcount this fall. That may actually be viewed as good news for Southern, considering Chancellor James Llorens last week feared enrollment might have dropped to 6,700 students.
