Done deal: Developers Brian Dantin and Ross Bruce have purchased 14 townhome lots in Country Club Place Residences on Brentwood Drive near Jefferson Highway for $1.55 million. The seller is Brentwood Development Company, a limited liability company managed by The Powell Group. Dantin and Bruce have converted the properties into nine single-family, detached lots and are offering them for sale. Buyers will be able to select their own homebuilders, Dantin says.
Happy birthday: A female sable was born at the Baton Rouge Zoo on Sunday, Dec. 10, zoo officials announced this morning. The calf was born to a 4-year-old mother in the zoo’s Africa loop. Native to southeastern Africa, sables thrive in the woodlands and savannah, always staying near water sources. The male and female sable both have horns, with the males simply being larger. The male features a black coat and the females have a brown coat. The calf appears to be progressing normally, zoo officials say, noting it will lie down and hide for the first few weeks of life and then begin to follow its mother. 2001 was the last a sable was born at the zoo.
The clock is ticking: President Donald Trump is calling on House Republicans to pass a spending bill to prevent a government shutdown. Lawmakers must pass a bill before midnight Friday when the government will run out of money. Trump tweeted today: “House Democrats want a SHUTDOWN for the holidays in order to distract from the very popular, just passed, Tax Cuts.” The president urged House Republicans to not “let this happen.” House Republicans this morning unveiled a stripped-down spending bill to prevent a government shutdown this weekend and allow quarreling lawmakers to punt most of their unfinished business into the new year. GOP leaders are scrambling to rally some frustrated Republicans behind the measure.
