Faces in the crowd: Social networking site Facebook will soon allow users to reserve vanity URL’s, which will make it easier for members to find their friends and favorite products. The new service takes effect at 11:01 p.m. tonight. While the registration is first come, first served, Facebook is taking steps to prevent “cyber squatters” from claiming trademarked names such as Coca-Cola or Wal-Mart. For more details, click here.
Staying on the job: Paul Vallas has decided to renew his contract as superintendent of the New Orleans Recovery School District and pass up a run for the Cook County Board in his native Illinois. Vallas says he has more work to do in the school district, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Vallas was CEO of Chicago Public Schools from 1995 to 2001. He ran for Illinois governor in 2002, finishing second to former Gov. Rod Blagojevich in the Democratic primary. He had been thinking about switching political parties and running as a Republican in Cook County.
