New La. jobless claims largely unchanged

First-time claims for unemployment benefits remained largely unchanged in Louisiana. The Louisiana Workforce Commission says it recorded 3,733 claims from the newly unemployed for the week ending Saturday. The total for the week ending Aug. 13 was 3,791. For the comparable week ending Aug. 21, 2010, there were 4,149 initial claims. The four-week moving average of initial claims, a less-volatile measure, decreased to 3,854 from 3,951 for the week ending Aug. 13. Those still looking for work filed last week for an additional 46,845 weeks of benefits. That’s a decrease from 47,412 for the week ending Aug. 13. For the comparable week a year ago, there were 56,102 additional benefit weeks.
