Dan Gardiner officially became CEO and managing director of Postlethwaite & Netterville today, succeeding longtime chief executive Bill Balhoff and bringing a yearlong transition process to an end.

“Bill Balhoff has been our CEO for the past decade, during which time our firm has experienced tremendous growth,” Gardiner says in a statement. “I’m very honored to serve as the fifth managing director of one of the top 100 accounting and consulting firms in the country, and am looking forward to building upon the strong foundation of quality client services that P&N offers.”

As previously reported, P&N has a succession plan that defines how and when a managing director transitions out of the top leadership role.

Balhoff, the 2014 Business Report Businessperson of the Year, joined the firm in 1976 and since that time P&N has grown to have 450 employees across multiple offices and more than $50 million in revenues.

Last May, the company’s leadership informed staff that Balhoff, who led the company as CEO for the past decade, would transition out of his executive role and become a director at the firm.

Gardiner, an LSU graduate, started his career as a member of the Postlethwaite & Netterville Assurance Services Group from 1995 to 2000. He then took an eight-year hiatus from the company, working as a corporate controller for a regional consumer packaged goods and distribution company and as a financial reporting manager for a publicly traded company international leasing company.

Gardiner rejoined P&N in 2008 as a member of the firm’s consulting services group and was promoted to director in 2011. He led P&N’s Tax Services Group before being announced as the firm’s next CEO.
