A deal that would have brought a new supermarket to the Greens at Millerville, at the intersection of Millerville Road and Interstate 12, has fallen through, after more than a year in the planning.
Developer Windy Gladney says the purchase agreement he had with a Nashville buyer on a 15-acre parcel at the mixed-use development fell through earlier this year in the early phases of the pandemic shutdown.
He says he doesn’t know why the firm—a real estate company that was going to develop the parcel into a retail center anchored by a supermarket——decided not to go forward with the deal.
“Given the boom in supermarkets during this pandemic, I don’t know why they didn’t want to move forward,” he says.
The $6 million deal, signed in 2019, is the second to fall through on the site. In 2016, Texas-based Buc-ee’s signed a purchase agreement for the same parcel and confirmed plans to build its first, mega rest stop outside of the Lone Star State at Gladney’s 56-acre development.
But the company later backed out of the deal for undisclosed reasons. In early 2019, it opened its first out-of-state location near Mobile, Alabama.
Gladney, who is currently developing a residential subdivision fronting Nicholson Drive called Woodstock Park, says that after the deal fell through he has had a few offers from buyers interested in smaller, 1- and 2-acre parcels of the overall tract, but nothing he’s interested in pursuing.
