Nancy Hammatt, a former East Baton Rouge principal of the year, has been named chief executive officer of the Advance Baton Rouge Charter School Association. Hammatt replaces Henry “Hank” Shepard, who resigned earlier this month. Hammatt, who spent 10 years as principal of Cedarcrest-Southmoor Elementary, has been a consultant with the Recovery School District for the past few years. Jeff English, board chair for Advance Baton Rouge, says Hammatt was selected because of her background as a pioneer with the System for Students and Teacher Advancement. Hammatt was named an East Baton Rouge Parish principal of the year in 2005. Advance Baton Rouge operates five charter schools in the Capital Region.
