NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The city says more than 120 people signed up during a trial period for a pay-by-phone parking service in New Orleans.
The city’s public works director says the goal is to provide the option at meters throughout the city by the end of the year.
The service, as described by the city, lets motorists use cell phones to key in information like their meter numbers and the amount of parking time they want. That total — plus a 35-cent service fee — will be charged to their credit cards.
Motorists must register by phone or online before taking advantage.
The city says the program lets drivers get text messages when their meter time runs low and lets them buy more time without feeding a meter.
