Houma-based Mr. Ronnie’s Famous Hot Donuts is expanding its business in Baton Rouge with a new food truck that will begin rolling on Friday in conjunction with National Donut Day.

Serving breakfast and lunch, the truck will feature a scaled down menu of the brick and mortar restaurant at 216 W. Lee Drive, near the intersection with Highland Road. Glazed and cake doughnuts, sliders and fries, breakfast kolaches and bottled beverages will be served.

With the food truck, says owner Marcus McGehee, the doughnut shop can reach new customers who may not have the time to stop by the restaurant.

“We understand that heavy traffic is built into our culture around Baton Rouge. So, it’s not always convenient for our customers to stop by in the morning, unless it is on their way to work,” McGehee says in a statement. “This gives us a great outlet to be able to take our talents on the road and serve people where they work.”

The food truck doesn’t have a defined route yet, but McGehee is looking at a few test sites like downtown and the LSU area. Event locations, fundraisers and job sites also are being considered.

Mr. Ronnie’s Famous Hot Donuts expanded into the Baton Rouge market in 2013.

In other doughnut news, Mid City’s Tiger Deaux-nuts will unveil its newly remodeled store at 5162 Government St. on Friday as well. Tiger Deaux-nuts announced in March that it would undergo a major renovation and revamp its menu.
