Moon Griffon, a popular Louisiana talk radio host, is set to make a splash in the Baton Rouge market. Griffon’s morning show will debut April 18 on the new FM news talk station Guaranty Broadcasting is setting up, according to Gordy Rush, market manager. Griffon, a native of Plaquemine who now lives in Monroe, has only been available locally on KKAY 1590, a White Castle AM station. But he’s got a following across the state, thanks to the Internet, and frequently pulls in political heavyweights as guests. Griffon is a conservative, but he’s not repeating Republican talking points. He frequently lambastes GOP elected officials and switched his political affiliation to “no party” because of disappointment with Gov. Bobby Jindal.
Guaranty is shuffling around the formats at some of its five local stations and is set to make changes next month. Rush wouldn’t give complete details yet, but he has said 104.9 KNXX will drop its alternative rock format. Another well-known talker could be joining Griffon in the lineup. Matt Kennedy resigned from WJBO 1150 AM last week, and there’s been speculation he could end up at the new station. “We would love to talk to Matt whenever his non-complete clause is up,” says Rush. —Timothy Boone
