The parent company of MidSouth Bank posted a 47% decrease in second-quarter profit as loan demand slowed. For the three months ending June 30, MidSouth earned $446,000, or 7 cents per share, compared with year-ago earnings in the second quarter, which were $1.4 million, or 21 cents per share. The Lafayette based bank blamed the earnings drop on rising provisions for loan losses and charging off $1.5 million in loans and credits in Baton Rouge. MidSouth saw a 7.2% drop in interest and non-interest income, which went from $17.6 million in the second quarter of 2008, to $16.4 million this year.
