Play at the U.S. Open has been suspended because of thunderstorms in the area, with Rory McIlroy holding a six-shot lead over Y.E. Yang. Yang shot 2 under on the front nine today to reach 5 under for the tournament before officials ordered players off the course. Earlier today, McIlroy shot 5-under 66 to set the 36-hole scoring record at the U.S. Open, at 11-under-par 131. If the lead stays at six, it will match the largest lead at the midpoint of the tournament. McIlroy made birdies on Nos. 16 and 17 to get to 13 under, the lowest score posted at any time during the 111-year history of the U.S. Open. He finished with a double bogey on No. 18 — the first hole he played over par in the tournament.
