May EBR building permits up

The value of building permits issued in East Baton Rouge Parish in May was up 43% from the year before. According to the city-parish Department of Public Works’ Inspection Division, the value of projects permitted in the parish during the month was more than $82.5 million, compared with $57.6 million in May 2010. The biggest commercial project permitted last month was The Woodlands of Baton Rouge, a $40.9 million apartment project that will be built on Ben Hur Road. Residential construction was well ahead of the 2010 pace, with $20.2 million in projects permitted during May, compared with nearly $11.4 million the year before. Through the first five months of 2011, the value of all permits has again run ahead of 2010: $228.7 million, as compared to nearly $206.9 million.
