A new retirement development in Covington is bringing home the gold. The new Maison du Lac Community and its architectural firm, Basham & Lucas Design Group, were recognized at the National Association of Home Builders with the Best of 50+ Housing Award. The award honors excellence and innovation in design, development and marketing of housing for older consumers. The $22 million planned project includes a 26-acre man-made lake stocked with fish, a recreational and fitness center, a zero-entry swimming pool, bocce courts, a golf simulator and putting green and miles of paved walking trails. The luxury development will have 269 one-story detached homes and 151 condominiums. Construction begins this fall on a 6,000-square-foot clubhouse and condos. Thirteen judges chose winners in 50 categories from nearly 300 entries around the world. Maison du Lac is on 157 acres along La. 1085.
