U.S. Sen. David Vitter is on track to raise $5 million for Republican legislative candidates over two election cycles, says John Maginnis. Vitter may be more active in legislative elections than any U.S. Senator since Huey Long, but Maginnis says his goal is not to top the Kingfish. “The point is not to lobby the Legislature on legislative issues,” Vitter told Maginnis, saying he wants to elect more “independent, reform-minded conservatives.” “It’s easier to change bodies than it is to change minds,” Vitter says.
