Maginnis: Down ballot elections about 2015 race

Political observers in Louisiana are concentrating more on the elections for statewide offices other than the governor’s race this fall, says John Maginnis. The likelihood of Gov. Bobby Jindal’s election to a second term is greater than that of his finishing it. “The most consequential contest this fall more likely will be for lieutenant governor, the winner of which has the pole position to run for governor next time, perhaps even as governor, should the current one move on early,” Maginnis says. The secretary of state’s race is also drawing attention from heavyweights such as House Speaker Jim Tucker and Caroline Fayard, a young Democrat who ran strong in the special lieutenant governor’s race last year.
