Centers with related missions located on the LSU campus are being merged under a single name. The National Center for Security Research and Training will be renamed the Stephenson National Center for Security Research and Training in honor of prominent university supporters Emmet and Toni Stephenson. The Stephenson Disaster Management Institute, established in 2007 with a donation from the Stephensons, will be brought into the SNCSRT organization, which also includes the National Center for Biomedical Research and Training, Law Enforcement Online, the Fire & Emergency Training Institute and the National Center for Disaster Fraud. SDMI originally had been part of the E.J. Ourso College of Business on the theory that the institute would study ways to apply business principles to disaster management. LSU says the partnership between SDMI and the business school will continue, but says the change will enhance collaboration between SDMI and other departments and units.
