LSU pitchers Louis Coleman and Matty Ott were named today to Collegiate Baseball magazine’s 2009 All-America team. Coleman, a senior right-hander from Schlater, Miss., was named to the first team, and Ott, a freshman right-hander from Metairie, was chosen to the third team. Coleman, the SEC pitcher of the year, is the 18th LSU player to receive first-team All-America accolades in the past 22 seasons. Coleman is 11-2 with a 2.84 ERA in 98.1 innings. He has 111 strikeouts and 19 walks, and opponents are batting .214 against him. Ott, the SEC co-freshman of the year, has 14 saves, tying Rick Greene (1991) for the single-season record. He has a 3-2 record and a 2.27 ERA with four walks and 61 strikeouts in 43.2 innings. Ott is the first LSU true freshman to earn All-America honors since 2001, when pitcher Lane Mestepey was chosen to Collegiate Baseball’s third team.
