LSU has launched a new online program for bachelor’s degrees in sociology beginning with the January semester.
The announcement comes as the university has taken steps to grow its online footprint, hoping to match online enrollment with on-campus enrollment. As of July, about 1,000 students were enrolled in online programs at LSU.
The program is built on the same fundamentals as the department’s on-campus program and provides access to the same faculty. Courses will focus on societal concepts like interactions, social change, how groups impact the choices people make and how culture influences.
“We are excited about partnering with LSU Online to offer a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology because it is an incredibly versatile degree and complements many careers,” says Yoshinori Kamo, chair of the LSU Department of Sociology, in a news release. “We are devoted to offering students a high-quality LSU education on a more flexible schedule and platform to help them meet their academic goals.”
LSU’s online programs are open to in-state and out-of-state students.
