BATON ROUGE AP) — LSU would have to close some of the 10 public hospitals it operates around the state under the worst-case scenario budget cuts being looked at by the Jindal administration.
That’s the assessment of Fred Cerise, LSU’s vice chancellor for health affairs and medical education, of the more than $58 million in cuts proposed for the charity hospitals.
Cerise wouldn’t say what hospitals would be on the closure list because he says the cuts remain uncertain.
Gov. Bobby Jindal’s administration asked state agencies to propose how to reduce their spending next year, and each department was given a target cutting figure. But the figures don’t necessarily reflect what will be in the governor’s 2009-10 budget proposal.
