Louisiana voters will finally be able to cast ballots for who they would like to see nominated for president of United States.
Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Saturday for the Louisiana presidential primary election.
Louisiana is one of several states hosting a caucus Saturday; voters in Kansas, Kentucky, Maine and Nebraska also will vote on their presidential preferences.
Republican frontrunner Donald Trump and Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton cemented their positions on Super Tuesday. Trump campaigned in Baton Rouge in early February, while former President Bill Clinton stumped for Hillary Clinton Thursday at LIUNA Local 99 headquarters on Government Street.
Both of the major political parties in Louisiana also are holding state central committee and parish executive committee elections Saturday.
Unlike other statewide elections, the presidential primaries are closed races, meaning that only registered Democrats and Republicans can vote in their respective party’s races. Photo identification is required.
In East Baton Rouge Parish, voters may see other items on the ballot as well. The City of Baker will select a new mayor, police chief and council. The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board also is having a special election to replace Tarvald Smith as District 4 representative. Smith was elected to the Baton Rouge City Court in October.
The Central Community School System also will vote on a 32.52-millage renewal. See a sample ballot for Saturday’s election.
