Former Gov. Edwin Edwards’ release from federal prison is making national news. The Los Angeles Times has an article about how Edwards’ fans are eager to see what he will do after eight years in prison. “I’d vote for him again,” Danny Hebert, a Crowley city inspector, told the newspaper. “You had to like him. He didn’t look down on nobody.” Crowley officials have offered to make Edwards the grand marshal of the city’s rice festival. Edwards’ daughter, Anna, told the newspaper that her father was “touched” by the invitation, but that the family didn’t know if he could accept it because of his probation. Leo Honeycutt, who wrote an authorized biography of Edwards, says at 83 the man feels himself to be too old to run for elected office again.
