James Llorens, an assistant chief administrative officer for Mayor Kip Holden, has been chosen as chancellor of Southern University’s Baton Rouge campus. Llorens previously served as dean of Southern’s graduate studies. He was one of three finalists recommended for job; the others were Diola Bagayoko, chairman of Southern’s physics department, and Earl Yarbrough Sr., former president of Savannah State (Ga.) University. Last week, the Board of Regents for the University System of Georgia voted not to renew Yarbrough’s annual contract. Llorens was appointed as one of Holden’s assistant chief administrative officers in January 2009 after the departure of Joe Guillory.
