Editor’s Note: Crop 2017 is taking place April 20-21.
Crop, a two-day, Baton Rouge-based design and creative conference, is returning this spring with a broader range of workshops and national speakers that will include creative entrepreneurs, illustrators, business owners and graphic designers.
Founder Matt Dawson, of Studio Gray, says the lineup for Crop 2017, set for April 20-21 at the Shaw Center for the Arts, has more variation in talent than the 2016 program, which was more narrowly tailored to design topics.
“We had a great year, but we kind of want to spread the creativity,” Dawson says.
The speakers for 2017 will include: Tad Carpenter from Kansas City, Missouri; Armin Vit and Bryony Gomez Palacio from Mexico City, Mexico, and Austin, Texas; Scotty Russell from Cedar Falls, Iowa; Daniel Haire from Atlanta; Morning Breath Inc. from Brooklyn, New York; and Tony Diaz of Industry Print Shop in Austin, Texas. Dawson says the 2016 version of Crop—a name that symbolizes the idea of producing and bringing something into focus—was wildly successful, as more than 325 creative workers from 12 states attended.
“One thing that was really special to me this past year was the way it kind of put Baton Rouge on the map as a cultural and creative hub,” says Dawson, who hopes Crop 2017 will further establish the Capital City as a hotspot for creativity.
Workshops for Crop 2017 include: Chalk Lettering with Ashlee Jones from New Orleans; Harvesting Creativity with Ask The Thomas Bros. of Baton Rouge; Making In-House a Home with the Dell Creative Team from Austin, Texas; and Branding and Logo Design with Lincoln Design Co. from Portland, Oregon.
VIP tickets have already sold out, but single-day tickets for speaker events are still available for $70.
