Democrats who are desperate for a viable challenger to Gov. Bobby Jindal could have a taker in Sen. Rob Marionneaux of Livonia. “I’m giving it some thought,” Marionneaux says. “I guess by the next few weeks some decisions will have to be made.” The term-limited senator says he met in New Orleans in June “with some business people interested in having a candidate.” “They committed to raise a sizable amount of money,” Marionneaux says. “Of course, I would have to put up some of my own money.”

—Former Gov. Buddy Roemer has explored enough and is ready to formally announce for president, which he plans to do next week in New Hampshire. When asked by email if the former governor would be attending an event there, his campaign spokesman Aaron Walker responded, “I believe that he’ll be creating his own event for the announcement, rather than piggyback Å• la Bachman.” Minnesota Congressman Michele Bachman captured the national spotlight when she announced her plans to run for president during a CNN candidates forum.
