An effort to double the state’s homestead exemption will once again go before the Legislature, John Maginnis says. This time, Sen. John Alario’s bill is picking up support, because of property reassessments in metro Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Lafayette. “Maybe it’s time for an alternative approach,” Maginnis says. “Instead of fewer homeowners paying property taxes, there should be more.” Read the column here.
