Baton Rouge businessman Jim Bernhard and his wife Dana will host a fundraiser at their home later this month for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who will be making her first campaign trip to Louisiana.
The event will be held Sept. 21 at a yet-to-be-determined time in the afternoon. Tickets cost $2,700 per person, with a co-sponsorship level offered at $27,000 and an event sponsorship costing $50,000.
“It will come as no surprise to you that we are longtime Hillary supporters,” Bernhard writes in a letter that was emailed Tuesday to invitees. “Dana and I know her to be incredibly capable, competent and committed to putting ideas to work that promise to uplift America. She is resilient, she works hard and understands how to build the alliances needed to solve problems. …”
The letter is dated Sept. 3, but was not sent out until Tuesday. Susan Nelson, an attorney and public policy consultant whose name and phone number are given in the letter as the RSVP contact, would not disclose how many emails were sent out or what criteria was used to compile the invitation list. Bernhard, reached by phone Monday, declined to comment.
But in the invite, Bernhard encourages recipients to respond quickly, as space is limited.
“In addition to being one of the smartest people we know, we enjoy her company,” reads the invite. “I hope you will come to hear about her ideas for Louisiana, her ideas for America and to experience firsthand the Hillary we know and love.”
