Investor Anthony Kimble has purchased the former Valley House Hotel property on Government Street in Downtown East.

He bought the former hotel, one block and across the street from Electric Depot, from David and Donna Applegate for $10 “and other good and valuable considerations,” according to public sales documents. One online listing lists the property for $1.8 million, though it is unclear when that was posted.

According to the Downtown Development District, the Valley House was a predominantly African American hotel at the turn of the 20th century. The two-story, 27,500-square-foot building sits on nearly 1.4 acres of land. The building was identified by DDD in 2017 as a potential historic development site.

Kimble, a former NFL player, has purchased several properties along Government Street in the past decade. In 2017, he bought the Government Village Shopping Center for $1.6 million with plans to update it. In 2013, he paired up with former LSU and NBA players Tyrus Thomas and Glen “Big Baby” Davis to purchase the shuttered Bible and Book Center and redeveloped it into several creative suites and office spaces. Kimble was unable to be reached for comment before this afternoon’s deadline.
