Interior Secretary Ken Salazar will leave President Obama’s Cabinet by the end of March, according to The New York Times and other national outlets. The former senator from Colorado has at times been under fire from the left and the right. Some environmentalists said his agency responded too slowly to the 2010 BP oil spill, while oil industry leaders and Republicans criticized the offshore drilling moratorium and tighter regulations that followed the disaster. Salazar’s exit, which reportedly will be officially announced today, creates another opening for the president to fill as he begins his second term. Salazar became part of Obama’s original Cabinet in 2008.
