Can’t stop the wind
Saying “Candidates should be accurate” is like saying hurricanes should be still (“Candidates should be accurate,” Sept. 1). You can’t separate the blowhard from either one.

Privatize the Department Of Public Works and things would actually get done in Baton Rouge (“Baton Rouge grass cutting falls behind due to weather, labor shortages,” Daily Report, Sept. 3). With a multimillion-dollar budget, it is amazing how little actually gets done around the city.

Power to change
We all had our eyes opened about zoning and land-use policy in Baton Rouge during the Tubal-Cain hearings (“Lessons learned from Tubal-Cain,” Sept. 1). I am indebted to my neighbors and to my colleagues at LSU for their presence during the public hearings. It makes me believe, once again, in the power of engaged citizens to change things.
Tubal-Cain might have done all by the book. But some of that book is very questionable. It is like cooking with a bad recipe or serving tainted food.
