The Pelican Institute, a Louisiana-based public policy group, has issued a 36-page report detailing wasteful state spending. The group released the Louisiana Pork Report in connection with Citizens Against Government Waste. “It should be clear from this report that Louisiana policymakers are suffering from a serious spending addiction that has helped to create a fiscal year 2010 budget shortfall of $1.8 billion,” the report says. The report takes aim at everything from widespread overtime wages paid to staffers at the Department of Health and Hospitals and the Louisiana State Police Department, to the state’s decision to give $75,000 last year to the Schepis Museum in Columbia, which is exhibiting works by a founding member.
