Baton Rouge is posting some of the lowest prices in the nation for gasoline this week as global oil prices continue to deteriorate in reaction to the spreading coronavirus.

As of this morning, Louisiana’s average gas price at the pump is $2.05, according to AAA, 12.3% lower than the national average of $2.32. In Baton Rouge, prices are even lower, with the average price at $2.01, according to GasBuddy.com, a consumer website.

The Costco on Dawnadele Avenue, off Airline Highway, is posting the lowest prices in the city at $1.75 per gallon. Most gas stations across town are posting prices between $1.80 and $1.97, though there are also a handful of stations around town selling gas for roughly $2.25 per gallon.

Expect prices to continue dropping in the coming days, as global markets keep fluctuating and try to stabilize amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the weekend, OPEC met to discuss the falling oil prices, but those talks broke down and Saudi Arabia responded by slashing its oil prices, triggering a price war and sending U.S. crude oil prices down by some 25%.
