More than 80% of people polled say Baton Rouge needs a traffic loop to reduce the number of vehicles on the interstates, with the strongest support coming from Iberville and West Baton Rouge parishes. According to a study released this morning by FuturePAC, the Baton Rouge Area Chamber’s political action committee, 83% say a loop would cut down on traffic congestion. Most say the loop would have multiple benefits, such as reducing traffic, shortening daily commute times, promoting economic development and making streets safer. Eighty-seven percent of the 1,500 people polled say loop funding should be made a priority, so construction could begin as soon as possible. Toll roads were the most popular way of paying for the loop, with 45% backing the new streets. Jim Ellis, FuturePAC chairman, says the widespread support shows it’s time to go ahead and start building the loop.
