If you’re one of the 56% of Americans planning to partake in Cyber Monday today, The Washington Post has compiled a guide to help you navigate the bombardment of online sales and promotions.
More Americans are expected to participate in the event this year than last year, when 39% did some online shopping during the day. And shoppers are projected to spend an average of $205 today, a 58% increase from last year’s $130 average, according to RetailMeNot.
An increase in customers and spending means Cyber Monday has the potential to be even busier than Black Friday, says RetailMeNot Chief Marketing Officer Marissa Tarleton.
So what should you look for if you plan to shop at home, on your mobile phone or via your desktop at work?
- Look for broader, sitewide deals. Black Friday discounts tend to focus on specific items, but Cyber Monday often features storewide deals as retailers look to move as much leftover merchandise as possible.
- Free shipping.
- Last-minute announcements and deals announced via email and social media.
- Toys. With an average markdown of 19%, toys tend to be the most discounted items on Cyber Monday, according to Adobe Analytics.
- Travel markdowns. Now that Thanksgiving has ended and you’re back at work, airlines and hotel companies want to make sure you waste no time booking your next getaway.
