BREC and the Baton Rouge Gallery are teaming up for the first-ever Art in the Park festival Saturday, focusing on bringing fun art activities to the community. Families can hang out for free at the gallery from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and enjoy child-friendly art projects, a sidewalk chalk drawing contest, storytelling and art technique demonstrations by Baton Rouge Gallery artists. Adults needn’t feel left out, either, as the grounds will play host to an artists’ portfolio sale with plenty of art to peruse. Call 383-1470 for more information. … The Michael Foster Project and Something Blue Band will provide the soundtrack for the ninth annual Aneurysm Outreach Chef Showdown at the Varsity Saturday evening. Professional and aspiring chefs will face off against one another Iron Chef–style, for a tasting competition to find out who’s the flavor king or queen. A silent auction gives you the chance to score amazing vacation packages, local artwork, spa retreats and more—with all proceeds going towards Aneurysm Outreach, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to mobilizing people and resources to eradicate aneurysms. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, which open at 4 p.m. … Also Saturday, Red Stick’s native rockers Twin Killers return to the Spanish Moon stage for the first time since New Year’s Eve. Back with new music after the success of their first release, Lemon Heart Opera, their combination of thrilling vocals and complex riffs will win you over. Zorch, Caddywhompus and Sun Hotel are also on the bill, which starts at 9 p.m. For more events going on around the Capital Region, visit 225 Select here.
