The parent company of Sunbelt Rentals has agreed to purchase Baton Rouge-based Empire Scaffolding for at least $38 million. Ashtead Group, based in London, purchased Empire Scaffolding and says it may pay an additional $1.5 million, depending on the company’s annual profits for fiscal 2011. An official with Sunbelt says Empire will remain a wholly owned subsidiary, and there are no plans to change the name or staffing. Empire, which was founded in 2001, rents and erects scaffolds across the Gulf Coast and U.S. Empire has about 550 employees.
