The value of building permits issued in East Baton Rouge Parish was 36.2% higher in February than it was a year ago. According to the city-parish Department of Public Works’ Inspection Division, the value of projects permitted in the parish was a bit more than $43.1 million, compared with nearly $31.7 million in February 2010. The increase was almost entirely due to the $11.4 million Sam’s Club under construction at Cortana Mall; that project received its permit last month. Residential construction was also up in February, from $10.1 million last year to $12.4 million. The value of city-parish building permits through the first two months of the year was $69.8 million, 7.6% ahead of the first two months of 2010.
