Covalent Logic founder Stafford Wood has created a new communications company that will target Catholic parishes and organizations, both locally and, eventually, in markets around the region.
The firm, St. Gabriel Publishing, will be a for-profit entity but will donate a portion of its profits to Catholic institutions and charities, Wood says. It will also develop templates that Catholic churches can download free of charge for use developing pew cards, envelopes, Mass cards and other printed materials.
“Sometimes marketing, messaging and branding take a back seat to the very important needs of a church or school,” Wood says. “I believe giving a parish communication tools actually helps it further the reach of its message and better meet its mission.”
Wood, who converted to Catholicism earlier this year, was inspired to create the firm after working for several years with Our Lady of Mercy parish. In 2012, the parish retained Covalent Logic to help unite its church and school under a single brand. Covalent updated the parish logo and developed new high-quality marketing materials, including a glossy, four-color quarterly magazine, Mercy Magnificat.
“We want to return beauty, aesthetic and majesty to the church in the same way you find it inside the church,” she says.
The new venture will be a separate division of Covalent Logic and will serve Catholic parishes, schools and dioceses with communications material, logo and graphic design, websites and social media.
