Traveling to Egypt or Turkey later this year? Not to worry. You’ll still be able to get your Mangosteen Madness and Muscle Punch Plus. Smoothie King is opening at least 20 locations in Egypt and Turkey in the next few years. The Covington-based maker of fruit-based nutrition drinks has signed an agreement with the Amer Group, an Egyptian real-estate development and hospitality company. The first location opens this summer in El Alamein, Egypt, with additional ones planned for cities along the Mediterranean and Red Sea coasts, as well as Cairo. The Amer Group is the largest local owner and operator of casual dining chains in Egypt, with nearly 40 outlets including Chili’s, Fish Market and Johnny Carino’s. Says Amer Group President & CEO Scott C. Smith: “We’re looking forward to introducing Egypt and Turkey to the nutritious and great taste of Smoothie King.” Smoothie King isn’t new to the global market. The firm first ventured internationally in 2003 with the opening of a location in Seoul, South Korea, and now has 52 locations in that country. The company is looking for other international markets. Smoothie King was ranked the 37th fastest growing franchise and the 57th top global franchise by Entrepreneur magazine in 2009. It currently serves up its fare in more than 600 locations across the United States and South Korea. Read more about Smoothie King’s success in the next edition of 10/12 magazine.
