MXD Group, a high-tech home delivery company, has signed a lease for the former Sears warehouse building at 6620 Greenwell Springs Road. According to Mark Hebert of Kurz & Hebert Commercial Real Estate, who represented the lessor, the landlord is 8484 Athens Avenue of Baton Rouge. The tenant, MXD Group of Ohio, was represented by Garrett Gains at Beau Box Commercial Real Estate.
Hebert won’t reveal particulars of the deal for the nearly 73,000-square-foot building, but he indicates the lease rate is between $4 and $5 per square foot. The property was purchased several months back for $485,000 and required extensive renovation.
The land originally was owned by Mary Bird Perkins, who sold it to Sears, which built a warehouse and used the building for more than 50 years before it became vacant. Hebert says the interior of the building has been vandalized extensively, but the new owners are creating new parking and repairing the roof, as well as installing new fencing and roll-up doors and refurbishing the warehouse space.
