A bubble tea shop is opening on Corporate Boulevard in early November, the owner confirmed Friday, entering the Baton Rouge market early amid a rising trend of bubble tea shops popping up across the nation.
In addition to bubble tea, a Taiwanese tea-based drink typically topped with tapioca balls, the shop—Teatery Teahouse and Tapioca—will also have menu items like matcha cream tea, popcorn chicken and specialty coffees.
Owner Hau Le says he envisions his concept as “the perfect combination” of the three teahouses in Houston where he’s worked over the past three years, each with Vietnamese, Chinese and Taiwanese influences.
“Bubble tea is very popular in Houston right now,” says Le, a Baton Rouge native. “I want to take a chance here.”
The shop will be located in the 1,250-square-foot space that once belonged to The Curtain Exchange, in the shopping center across from Towne Center. Le says he’s leasing the space for five years.
Once open for business, Teatery will operate from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
Other early local adopters of bubble tea include MoMo Tea in Ichiban Square, Vivi Bubble Tea on Florida Boulevard and Vanilla Sweet House in Acadian-Perkins Plaza, all of which were announced in the past several months.
