Two new tenants are joining the Acadian-Perkins Plaza Shopping Center roster: La Salle’s Crawfish and Lobster Rolls, a fast-casual restaurant that opened its doors on Saturday, and Vanilla Sweet House, a bakery slated for an early June opening.
Both businesses have signed five-year leases, says shopping center landlord Jon Claitor.
La Salle’s, which is leasing the 1,200-square-foot space next to The Salad Shop, offers traditional East Coast-style lobster rolls as well as some fare—like the crawfish au gratin roll—with a Louisiana twist, says co-owner Leo Scott, Jr.
“We haven’t been able to find any places that have this traditionally Northern food,” he says. “Normally, with lobster rolls, you have to travel for those.”
The restaurant is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, Scott says, though he and co-owner Jeff Simoneaux are toying with the idea of introducing a breakfast menu and changing business hours accordingly.
The crawfish-and-lobster joint is also applying for an alcohol permit, which would allow it to serve customers Tin Roof beer, Scott adds.
Construction on the 1,240-square-foot Vanilla Sweet House began in February. Claitor says it should be ready for business sometime before June 15th.
The bakery, owned by a former Mary Lee Donuts employee, will sell “everything but donuts,” including boba tea, cakes and pastries.
“I know there’s not a bakery between College Drive and the Perkins Road overpass … and I look for things that aren’t around,” Claitor says. “I like the concept of lobster rolls for the same reason.”
