The Planning Commission is set to consider a new brewery on Government Street at its meeting this afternoon.

The owners of a Hammond-based brewery want to open their first location for the brewery and taproom in a strip center at 5635 Government St., near the recently opened White Star Market and Soji.

If approved by the commission, the brewery will still need Metro Council approval. The owners have said they’d like to be open by next August.

Also at today’s meeting, the commission will:

  • Consider the final development plan for a potential Chicken Salad Chick restaurant near the intersection of Burbank and Lee drives. If approved, the restaurant would be the first Chicken Salad Chick in Baton Rouge. The plan only needs the OK from the Planning Commission and does not require Metro Council approval.
  • Consider a new retail center on O’Neal Lane. If approved, the center would require approval from the Metro Council.
  • Consider a new apartment complex off of North Ardenwood Drive near Baton Rouge Community College. The complex was originally slated to be considered by the commission in June but was delayed. The apartments would be built by LDG Development, a Kentucky development group that has built three other complexes in Baton Rouge and is working on a fourth on the corner of Nicholson Drive and Gardere Lane. The apartments do not require Metro Council approval.

The meeting starts at 5 p.m. at City Hall, 222 St. Louis St. See the full agenda.
