The Baton Rouge Area Chamber says the recently concluded legislative session had an “extremely underwhelming” effect on economic development efforts in the Capital Region. Adam Knapp, BRAC president and CEO, says there were some bright spots, such as the reinstatement of the angel investor program and the enhancement of the digital media tax credit. “In regards to higher education, it was disappointing to see a lack of support from our regional delegation and the Legislature for positive financial reforms that would have better funded our state research universities, like LSU,” Knapp says. “Although there were not massive projected cuts to university funding, they missed the opportunity of a budget crisis to make the hard decisions on more long-term financing solutions.” To see the BRAC analysis, which looks at the achievements and missed opportunities of the session, click here.
