The administrator of BP’s $20 billion oil spill claims fund returns to the Gulf Coast this week amid continued complaints that he’s not compensating victims enough and that payments are coming too slowly. Attorney Kenneth Feinberg will meet with residents in Mississippi and Louisiana today and Tuesday. Feinberg is in charge of the Gulf Coast Claims Facility, which was set up to dole out BP’s money to oil spill victims. Feinberg has faced criticisms that payments are slow and that he’s not being transparent. Some have also questioned his relationship with BP and whether he can be unbiased. The oil giant is paying his firm $850,000 a month. Feinberg says he is operating the fund independent of BP and is working on behalf of the victims of the April 20 oil well blowout.
