Organizers of Flambeau Fest are monitoring Tropical Storm Nate and say they’ll make a final call around noon today on whether the music festival will go on as scheduled this weekend in Gonzalez.

“The Flambeau Fest team is continuing to consult with local and national weather authorities as the morning progresses,” the organizers say in Facebook message. “As always, we are highly focused on the safety of our crew, artists and fest goers.”

The National Weather Service says Nate is moving northwest over the western Caribbean and is expected to intensify as it moves into the Gulf of Mexico.

Flambeau Fest is set to take place at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center’s Ascension Fields festival grounds. Country music star Sam Hunt will headline the main stage on Saturday followed by classic rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd on Sunday.

As Best of 225 This Week reports, co-producer Adam Mark Miller originally planned to launch the festival next year. But Bayou Country Superfest’s move from Tiger Stadium to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this year inspired him to move Flambeau Fest up a year. The August 2016 flood that devastated the Baton Rouge area provided even more motivation.

“We felt like we had lightning in a bottle,” Miller says. “Everyone jumped on board.”

Performances at Flambeau’s main stage runs from 4 to 11 p.m. Saturday and 4 to 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Musical acts on the two smaller stages will perform from noon to 4 p.m. each day. Tickets are $149 for both days, with single day tickets available for $85.

After the tragic mass shooting at a Las Vegas country music festival on Sunday, the Flambeau Fest organizers shared a post on Facebook outlining the steps they and the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office will be taking to increase security measures and provide a safe environment for attendees.
