Baton Rouge’s three riverboat casinos collectively saw their winnings fall by 4.3% in August to roughly $23.4 million, down from $24.4 million won from gamblers in August last year.
New figures from the Louisiana Gaming Control Board show L’Auberge Casino & Hotel, the city’s newest and largest casino, posted the smallest decrease, while the Belle of Baton Rouge posted the largest. L’Auberge won about $13.2 million last month, which was a scant 0.2% decrease—or about $60,000 less than it won last August. The Belle’s take of roughly $4.7 million last month marked a 14.1% decline from winnings of about $5.4 million in August 2014. Hollywood Casino, meanwhile, won approximately $5.5 million during the month, a 4.8% decline.
The declines seen at local riverboat casinos last month followed a statewide trend.
The Shreveport/Bossier City market collectively posted a 14.4% decline in its take to $56.2 million, with all six casinos tallying a year-over-year decline in winnings. In the Lake Charles market, only two of the city’s three casinos were operational last year for comparable figures. Among those two—the Isle of Capri and L’Auberge—winnings fell about 11% to $39.6 million. The Golden Nugget, which opened in December last year, won $20.7 million last month.
New Orleans’ three riverboat casinos bucked the statewide trend, collectively posting a 2.1% increase in winnings to $22.6 million.
