Baton Rouge riverboat casino revenue drops 21% in January

Baton Rouge’s three riverboat casinos won less money from gamblers in January—the fifth consecutive month in which year-over-year gaming revenue dropped, according to the latest report from the Louisiana Gaming Control Board.  

L’Auberge Baton Rouge, Hollywood Casino and the Belle of Baton Rouge collectively took in roughly 21% less than they did during the same month in 2017.

The casinos won $20.5 million last month—down from roughly $26 million in January 2017. Month-over-month winnings also nosedived, falling 10.6% from November.  

The Belle of Baton Rouge again posted the largest year-over-year decline, with winnings falling nearly 25% to just under $4 million. The casino won about $5.2 million during the same month last year.

Hollywood, meanwhile, won about $4.4 million from its gamblers—a roughly 23% decrease from $5.7 million. L’Auberge won $12.1 million—an 18% drop from $14.8 million.

Of Louisiana’s four riverboat casino markets, Baton Rouge is the only market where all casinos posted declines and one of two that experienced a decline marketwide.

Winnings in the Shreveport/Bossier market—which has six casinos—dropped 5.8%. The Margaritaville casino was the only casino in that market to see its winnings rise in January.

Winnings in the Lake Charles and New Orleans markets, rose 3.5% and .5%, respectively.

Statewide, Louisiana’s 15 riverboats won nearly $140 million in January— 4.1% less than the the same month last year.
