There were 500 more jobs in metro Baton Rouge in July than there were a year ago, according to figures released today by the Louisiana Workforce Commission. That reverses a slide in job numbers during the past few months. According to seasonally unadjusted figures, there were 359,800 total non-farm jobs in the Capital Region in July, compared with 359,300 in July 2010. The increase was caused by more goods-producing and retail jobs. The state recorded 32,100 more non-farm jobs last month than in July 2010, going from nearly 1.8 million to 1.9 million. New Orleans added 13,700 jobs, making it the largest gainer, but every metro area added jobs except for Monroe. Statewide unemployment was 7.9%, ahead of the Baton Rouge metro average of 8.2%.
