Kelly Ponder and Michael Buchert hatched an idea for a restaurant in the late-1990s, during a hangover-induced eating frenzy while they were vacationing in Jamaica. But the two Catholic High and LSU grads never imagined their vision would result in The Rum House, a thriving “Caribbean Taqueria” on trendy and busy Magazine Street in New Orleans. The restaurant features tacos, with delectable fillings from fish to curried lamb, jerk chicken, scallops and pulled pork. “We’d like to think we reinvented or re-energized the specialty taco,” Buchert says.
